Mother & Child is governed by a diverse and caring volunteer Board of Directors. We appreciate their commitment to our mission to support anyone in care of a child.
President – Cathy Sherick
Occupation: Government, Education and Non Profit Consultant
Cathy Sherick, who values strong community connections and open dialogue. Cathy’s story begins in Spokane and unfolds in Portland where she met her husband. They have called the Hazelwood neighborhood home raising two sons who attended David Douglas, Eastern Oregon University (Go Mounties) and Oregon State University (Go Beavs) With an undergraduate degree in education and a graduate degree in public administration her varied and diverse career in higher education and local government has been challenging. A partnership and program developer, Cathy has produced large events, promotional videos, courses and curriculums in addition to managing numerous community recreation and education programs and services. She has served Human Solutions, Metro East Learning Academy and East Metro Arts, Culture and Community as a board member and volunteered with David Douglas schools, St. Joseph the Worker Parish and Human Solutions building connectedness and having fun. A devotee of the Oregon coast Cathy prefers the outdoors; hiking and gardening (poorly) and attending local festivals and events where she has been known to eat fried food and dance. She joined the Board in 2022.
Treasurer: Richard Barsotti, MD
Occupation: Pediatrician, Metro Pediatrics
Dr. Barsotti is a well-known pediatrician who comes from a large family. He is passionate about providing adequate health care for expectant mothers and children. On the wall at his practice, he has a life-size Dr. Seuss with the saying “A person’s a person no matter how small.” In addition to his healthcare expertise, Dr. Barsotti is helping us computerize our client file and volunteer management. Dr. Barsotti is a native of Portland and did his undergraduate studies at Oregon State University, medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, and pediatric residency training at USC/LA County Medical School. He returned to Portland after three years with the Air Force and has practiced general pediatrics in East County since 1982. He is a father of four and grandfather of seven. Dr. Barsotti joined the Board in 2014.
Secretary: Patrick Duffy
Occupation: President, American Machine & Gear
Patrick has served on several local boards and brings more than 40 years of business expertise (he owns his own business), financial acumen, and connections with the local health and fitness community. He is very active in his parish (St. Pius X), and is the current president of Legatus, an organization of Catholic leaders of large businesses. He is a world-known soccer and track official. He is also the past Board Chair. Patrick joined the Board in 2012.
Director: Kristin Russo
Occupation: Senior Specialist, EVER Skin Care. Previously: Account Director, Razorfish Marketing
Prior to staying home with her two children, Kristin worked in the publishing sector for Entertainment Weekly and Sports Illistrated for Kids
magazines in New York focusing on consumer marketing. When she
moved back to Portland, she dove into digital marketing at Razorfish, serving as Account Director for Miller Coor and Best Buy accounts.
Because of her extensive knowledge in advertising, marketing and media, her primary focus as a board member is establishing consistency on messaging, branding and social media endeavors. Kristin has many friends in the industry willing to help at-cost or pro-bono. She is a mother of two and has strong roots in the Portland area. A fun Portland fact, Kristin was Rose Festival Queen in 1996 for St. Mary’s Academy. She is a graduate of Santa Clara University and joined the Board in October 2014.
Director – Kanika Saraiya
Occupation: KPMG Director
Kanika Saraiya, who values that our doors and hearts are open to all without any biases. As a mother of two, she believes in helping contribute to a better future for communities by providing resources for early childhood building healthy and happy children. Professionally, Kanika is a Director with KPMG with over 14 years of experience in risk and management consulting. Kanika has significant experience in business process analysis and design, strategy and implementation roadmap, operating model restructuring and transformation, automation adoption and process efficiency, entity wide and IT risk assessments, IT strategy and governance, IT restructuring and transformation, IT audits and controls, SOX Advisory, SOC attestation and IT reviews, Internal and SOX External Audits. Kanika has served industries internationally ranging from Oil and Gas, Automobile, Telecommunications, Healthcare, Retail, Hi-tech, Manufacturing to IT and ITES. She has international experience of working on clients in Europe, China, India and USA. She joined the Board in 2022.
Director: Ayo Babtunde
Occupation: Pediatric Primary Care Registered Nurse
Ayo’s previous work experience includes work as a registered nurse in women’s health and pediatrics. She also has experience working on communications, project management, and program development (project management and program development were both in a clinic setting). Ayo has a strong interest in empowering women and parents through education. Babatunde joined the Board in 2020.
