Classes
Classes are currently offered via Zoom. Classes are available at no cost and are geared toward expectant parents, current parents or people caring for children ages 0-5 years old. Click on the links below for more information and to register for appropriate classes.
Childbirth
Childbirth - This is a two-class series. In the first class, we will discuss preparing for the birth, signs and stages of birth, comfort measures, relaxation, birth positions, and the golden hour.
The second class will cover what to pack & prepare, birth plans, the unexpected in birth, pain, postpartum care, and more. We look forward to seeing you and supporting your journey approaching childbirth!
Caring for Baby
Caring for Baby/ Newborn Care - This is a two-class series. In the first class, Jess will discuss topics including responding to baby, safe sleep, understanding your baby’s crying, calming a crying baby, and incorporating self-care into caring for your baby. The second class will cover umbilical cord care, bath time, diapers, oral care and feeding, bonding with baby, and safety. Additional topics related to newborn care may also come up throughout the course. We look forward to seeing you and supporting your journey through newborn care!
Safe Sleep
Call (503) 249-5801 to learn more. Safe Sleep is only available to parents in the 3 months prior to baby’s arrival and the two months after.
Breastfeeding
Join us for a free workshop on breastfeeding. This class is great for expectant parents and those with newborns! The class is taught by a lactation specialist who will go over the building blocks of breastfeeding. You will learn your baby’s hunger signs, how to encourage good latching and proper positioning, and how to create a supportive environment conducive to a positive breastfeeding experience. Additional topics related to breastfeeding may also come up throughout the course. We look forward to seeing you and supporting your breastfeeding journey!
New Parent Workshop
Join Mother & Child Education Center for a fun and informative event designed for new parents to gain some or more hands-on experience. This workshop will cover a range of topics to help you navigate the exciting journey of parenthood. From diaper changing tips, bathtime basics, postpartum planning, to car seat safety, we’ve got you covered. Click the tab below to learn more about what you can expect from our workshop! This class is geared towards parents who are expecting or have a child 6 months or younger. We can’t wait to see you there!

Pregnant Moms & Newborn Babies
Prenatal Vitamins
Prenatal Vitamins are important in helping keep mom and baby healthy during pregnancy. Since 2019, Mother & Child has implemented a Vitamin Angel Micronutrient Grant making it possible for us to provide prenatal vitamins to every expectant mother who walks in our doors. Prenatal vitamins are available for those who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Maternity Clothing
Maternity clothing is available to all pregnant parents depending on the supply we have available.
Baby Items
Beginning in the 3rd trimester, expectant parents are welcome to begin receiving supplies for baby’s arrival. (See below in: Babies, Toddlers, and Kids)
Books
We have a large selection of books pertaining to a wide variety of topics. Looking for information about fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, parenting, or more? Just ask and we might have a book for you!
Babies, Toddlers, & Kids
Nursing Supplies
Moms who are at least two weeks post-delivery may make an appointment during regular hours to receive nursing bras, along with other nursing supplies, such as nursing tops, nursing pillows, breast pads, milk storage bags, and more. If you feel you are not producing enough milk, please ask about our milk tea.
Formula
Supplemental formula is available to those not breastfeeding or those struggling with their milk supply. We offer many different brands, including Similac and Enfamil. We encourage all eligible parents to access additional formula support through WIC. Bottles are also available.
Wipes may be available upon request.
Clothing
Gently-used clothing is available for children between sizes Preemie and 6T. Clothing typically comes in bundles which include: shirts, pants/shorts, and pajamas. Bundle contents are subject to change dependent on supply.
Diapers
Both cloth and disposable diapers are available. Diapers are offered in sizes Newborn to size 6. Pull-Ups are available in 2T/3T and 3T/4T. 4T/5T are extremely limited but are sometimes available.
We are partnered with PDX Diaper Bank and are now usually able to give out half-packs or more, dependent on size and supply. Please be aware that we are unable to be a sole source of diapers for families.
